The transition into April usually brings a shift in the light that makes the dust bunnies under the sofa a little more visible. But this year, I’m looking past the skirting boards. I’m looking at the clutter we carry in our schedules, our wardrobes, and our heads.

In our recent Four P’s framework, we’ve talked about Preparing and Performing. This month, let’s look at the Pause. Specifically, the kind of pause that allows you to clear out what’s no longer serving the woman you are becoming.

The Science of the Clear Out

There is a genuine link between our physical environment and our internal calm. When you are navigating perimenopause or menopause, your brain is already working overtime to recalibrate to shifting hormones.

A cluttered desk or a wardrobe full of clothes that don’t fit the now version of your body creates a constant, low-level visual noise. This contributes to the brain fog many of us experience. By tidying your physical space—clearing your office, sorting your cupboards, or donating the clothes that make you feel “less than”—you are essentially giving your menopausal brain a much-needed break from processing unnecessary data.

Why April Matters: Stress and Global Health

This month isn’t just about the Easter Bunny; it’s also Stress Awareness Month. For women in midlife, stress isn’t just a feeling—it’s a physiological trigger. High cortisol levels can actually make symptoms like hot flushes and anxiety feel more intense.

Coincidentally, World Health Day falls on April 7th. It serves as a timely reminder that menopause care is a fundamental part of a woman’s health journey. Taking the time to de-stress and declutter isn’t a luxury or an afterthought. It’s a vital health intervention.

Spring Cleaning Your Plate

As the weather warms up, it’s the perfect time to spring clean your nutrition too. We often move away from the heavy, beige comfort foods of winter and start craving vibrancy. Fresh, crunchy salads and colorful fruit bowls aren’t just aesthetically pleasing; they are packed with the fiber and phytoestrogens that support your gut health and hormonal balance. Think of it as fueling the “new version” of you with the brightness she deserves.

Your Three-Step Spring Edit

💜 The Wardrobe Refresh: We’ve all been there: staring at a pair of jeans from five years ago that make us feel like a failure because they don’t zip up. Prune them. Your wardrobe should be a collection of clothes that make you feel comfortable and confident in the body you have today.

💜 The Office Reset: If your workspace is a mountain of old post-it notes and tangled chargers, your focus will suffer. Spend thirty minutes clearing your surface. A clear desk helps signal to your brain that it’s time to focus, helping you move from frazzled to functional.

💜 The Easter Energy Clean: Easter often comes with high expectations for family gatherings. This year, try spring cleaning your obligations. If a tradition feels draining, swap it for something that restores you. A walk in the fresh air to support your bone health is far more Juicy than spending four hours scrubbing a roasting tin if it leaves you exhausted.

Ready to Bloom?

When we clear the physical and mental clutter, we create the “white space” needed to hear our own intuition. Menopause is a significant life transition, and it’s much easier to navigate when you aren’t tripping over the past—whether that’s an old coat or an old habit.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the “clutter” of menopause symptoms and aren’t sure where to start your own pruning process, I can help. I offer 1-2-1 coaching designed to give you clarity, confidence, and a personal roadmap through this transition.
