March. Just the word itself feels like a breath of fresh air, doesn’t it? For me, March is doubly special. Not only is it my birthday month (ahem, a lady never reveals her age!), but it also heralds the arrival of spring – my absolute favourite season. And this year, as I navigate the ever-changing landscape of menopause, the symbolism of spring feels particularly poignant.

Think about it: spring is all about new beginnings, growth, and the shedding of old layers. Just like the daffodils pushing their way through the cold earth, we too can find the strength to blossom and embrace this new phase of life. It’s a time for renewal, a chance to rediscover ourselves, and to plant new seeds for the future.

This year, the changing of the clocks feels especially significant. That extra hour of daylight? It’s not just about longer evenings; it’s about embracing the light within ourselves. Menopause can sometimes feel like a long, dark winter, but just as the days lengthen, so too can our sense of hope and vitality.

I’m particularly excited about my garden this year. I’ve been planning it for months, poring over seed catalogues and dreaming of vibrant colours and fragrant blooms. I’ve chosen varieties that are known for their resilience, their ability to thrive even in challenging conditions. And it struck me – isn’t that just like us, ladies? We’re resilient, we’re adaptable, and we have an inner strength that allows us to bloom, no matter what life throws our way.

This March, I’m making a conscious effort to embrace the spirit of spring in every aspect of my life. I’m focusing on self-care, nurturing my body and mind with healthy food, gentle exercise, and plenty of rest. I’m also making time for the things that bring me joy – spending time with loved ones, getting lost in a good book, and, of course, pottering in the garden.

And speaking of nurturing ourselves, I’m especially keen to embrace the fresh flavours of spring in my diet. Now is the perfect time to start thinking about lighter, more vibrant meals. I’m a big fan of juicing, and I love experimenting with new combinations of seasonal fruits and vegetables. There’s something so satisfying about creating a delicious and healthy juice packed with vitamins and goodness. And where possible, I try to choose locally grown produce. Not only does it taste better, but it also supports local farmers and reduces our environmental footprint. Think of all the wonderful things coming into season now: crisp spring greens, juicy rhubarb, and the first of the asparagus. They’re not only delicious but also packed with nutrients that can help support us through menopause.

This March, we also celebrate International Women’s Day. It’s a moment to reflect on the achievements of women throughout history, to celebrate our strength and resilience, and to continue to strive for equality. For me, it’s a reminder of the power of female bonding and the importance of supporting each other through all stages of life, including the challenges and triumphs of menopause. Let’s use this day to recognise our own worth and to celebrate the incredible women we are.

I’m making a conscious effort to incorporate more of these seasonal delights into my diet. I’m planning to visit my local farmers market to see what treasures I can find, and I’m looking forward to trying out some new recipes. I believe that nourishing our bodies with wholesome, seasonal food is an essential part of self-care, especially during this time of transition.

And as the first delicate snowdrops and crocuses begin to appear, I’m reminded of the beauty of small beginnings. Menopause is a journey, not a destination, and every small step we take towards embracing this new chapter is a victory in itself.

So, this March, let’s celebrate the arrival of spring, let’s celebrate our strength and resilience, and let’s celebrate the incredible women we are becoming. Let’s embrace the light, nurture our inner gardens (and our bodies!), and bloom into our full potential.

Happy Spring, everyone! And happy birthday to all my fellow March babies! Let me know in the comments what you’re most looking forward to this spring. Are you planning any new beginnings of your own? What seasonal delights are you looking forward to? Let’s share our stories and inspire each other.
